Ackee Into The Quarterfinals of The Men’s Sprint.
Cyclist Michael Ackee will be competing in the men’s sprint 1/4 Final, Heat two, at 7:35pm on Saturday night at the Youth PanAm Games in Colombia. He will be riding against Colombia’s Carlos Cardona as he seeks to book his ride in the 1/2 Final. Akee Finished ninth place in the qualification heat in a time of 10.685 while fellow Trinbagonian Zion Pulido finish fourteenth and since only the top twelve riders move on to the 1/8 Final, Pulido did not advance.
In heat 4 of 1/8 Finals, Ackee went head to head with Argentina’s Oscar Vilar but finished second and was sent to repechage where he had a next opportunity to qualify for the quarterfinals. Ackee made no mistake in repechage as he won that race in a time of 11.247 to book a spot in the 1/4 Finals. The twenty-one year old is just two wins away from picking up T&T’s first medal at the Games.
First-timer Sylese Christian also took to the tracks in the women’s Keirin but did not finish and therefore did not go beyond the qualification stage.
