Safiya John and Dwight St. Hillaire Pick up Indoor Gold
Representing the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff at the Arkansas Invitational Meet on Friday evening, Safiya John was on call for two events: the long jump and the women’s 60m hurdles. Going in the hurdles’ preliminaries first, John finished second in heat four in a time of 8.61 seconds, the 6th fastest time overall. In the finals, she placed 5th with an improved time of 8.57 seconds. Her glory would come in the women’s long jump though, with her best leap of 6.07m being enough to take top spot. Teammates and fellow Trinbagonians Che Rochford and Joanna Rogers also competed and came 17th and 12th overall in the men’s 60m hurdles and women’s 400m respectively.
Across in Kentucky on Friday evening as well, Olympian Dwight St. Hillaire was in winner’s row as he won the men’s 200m final at the Jim Green Invitational in Kentucky. He completed the half lap in a time of 21.02 seconds.
