T&T Men Miss Out on AmeriCup Group Stage

The Trinidad and Tobago male representatives had a good start to the 2021 Americup 3v3 Tournament after defeating Guyana 21-13 in their first game on Friday morning. Adrian Joseph led the way for T&T as he has eleven points with teammates Steven 'Lighter' Lewis and Nathyon Lewis chipping in with six and four points respectively. Pooled in Group B of the Qualifying Phase alongside Guyana and Guatemala, only the winner of the qualifying group would advance to the main pool. At the start of game two, team TTO controlled their own fate and a win meant that they would join Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic in the next round. However, Guatemala pulled away early in the game and the Adrian Joseph-led squad could not recover in time, as Guatemala ran away with a 21-14 victory and finished group winners.

On Saturday, the women will hop into action against USA at 2:50pm and Argentina later at 4:50pm. The top two In each group advances to Sunday's Quarterfinals.

The teams representing T&T in Miami are as follows:

Men: Steven 'Lighter' Lewis

Moriba De Freitas

Naython Lewis

Adrian Joseph

Women: Kielle Connelly

Nikiya Baptiste

Kristin Rampersad
