T&T Men's Volleyball Team Off to Mexico

Last evening the Trinidad and Tobago Senior Men's Volleyball team left for Mexico where they'll be competing in the 2021 NORCECA Men's Continental Championship which is also a 2022 FIVB World Championship qualifier. The tournament will be held at the Auditorio del Pueblo, an iconic venue, from August 18th-24th.

The competing nations will be split into two groups, with Trinidad and Tobago being pooled in Group A alongside Mexico, Canada and Puerto Rico while USA, Dominican Republic, Cuba and Guatemala are all in Group B. The event has had different winners in the last three editions of the continental competitions with Canada, United States and Cuba claiming the top place of the podium. The top placed teams at the end of the pool play will secure tickets to the semifinal phase while teams placed in second and third will meet in the quarterfinals with the winners advancing to the medal round play. The losers in the quarterfinals will play for the 5-to-8 positions.


T&T will hit the floor on Wednesday night at 9pm in their opening game against the hosts, Mexico. Just after lunch on Thursday (2pm) they'll battle against Canada and they'll end off their round robin play on Friday against Puerto Rico, 2pm as well. Any further games in the tournament will depend on their performances during the group stage. The first and second placed finishers qualify for the 2022 FIVB World Championship in Russia.


The team is as follows: Joel Theodore, Adriel Roberts, Akim Bushe, Brandon Legall, Ryan Stewart, Newton Grant, Daynte Stewart, Enrique Harry & Kameron Donald. The technical staff comprises of Gideon Dickson, head coach, and Darnel David as assistant coach.
